Statue Tshokwe - Congo

Statue of standing with braids on the head to mark his membership in his tribe, to embody the Illungo chief Shibinda. His chest on his stomach was used for divination during certain mystical ceremonies. Object of protection and initiation too. It was taken out at night only for large ceremonies with torches where the villagers danced around the statue to commemorate the ancestors. Protective object, rare and very old.

Statue de tenant debout avec les tresses sur la tête pour marquer son appartenance à sa tribu, pour incarner le chef illungo Shibinda. Son coffre sur le ventre lui servait de divination pendant certaines cérémonies mystiques. Objet de protection et d'initiation aussi. On le sortait la nuit que pour des grandes cérémonies avec des torches où les villageois dansaient autour de la statue pour commémorer les ancêtres. Objet de protection, rare et très ancien.
